66 Civic is a new contemporary residential development located in Kitchener’s entertainment district. The project includes two existing historic buildings on the site: including the renovation of a two-storey heritage-home and an 11-storey apartment building. The heritage-home was fully renovated and its structure was restored. The 170-unit precast concrete luxury building includes ample underground and surface parking. The apartment building was designed using cast-in-place concrete below grade and precast concrete above grade.
With sustainability in mind, the design incorporated green features such as geothermal heating and cooling, as well as solar rooftop solar panels. The project includes an infiltration gallery which is meant to collect stormwater from both the rooftop and parking lot and then infiltrate onsite. The building also features rooftop terraces, a pet spa, bike storage, fitness centre and interior and exterior private amenity areas.
A patterned formliner was used on the precast concrete to mimic the historic buildings in the neighbourhood. Precast concrete was selected for the Civic 66 development to accelerate construction, increase efficiency and quality and to allow for the integration of distinguished architectural features.

The project was completed in September 2023 and residents were officially able to make Civic 66 their home shortly after. This project received a 2023 Ontario Concrete Award (2023 Architectural Merit Award for Outstanding Work).
