BMO Field Expansion in Toronto - Phase I
Toronto, Ontario

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment are renovating the BMO Field, which is home to the Toronto FC. The expansion will be split into two phases, with the completion of the full project set for 2016.

Armtec Brampton Precast supplied and installed the original stadium in 2006 and was the chosen precast concrete supplier for the Phase 1 expansion.

Completed in May 2015, Phase 1 added 8,400 more seats to a combined total of 30,000 seats, 12 new Executive Suites, 2 party suites and a Loge Box along with new washrooms and concessions.

Armtec Brampton supplied 621 precast concrete pieces for the Phase 1 expansion (216 double stadia, 13 tubs, 296 aisle steps, 59 walls, 14 stairs and 23 platform pieces).

Armtec Brampton Precast installed the majority of the precast elements in the cold month of February 2015. In Toronto, February was the coldest month ever on record where the temperatures never climbed above 0 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures dropped as low as -25.5 degrees and the wind chill was recorded at -40 degrees.  There were 6 days that were lost due to high winds and extreme cold, as this project is steps away from Lake Ontario.

The extreme weather presented major construction challenges but Armtec Brampton’s erection crews worked off shift & extra hours to ensure the completion date of the May 1st opening. The hard work paid off and Armtec Brampton was able to complete the work on site 3 days ahead of schedule.
